We run hundreds of events each year, from our flagship London conference to friendly local meet-ups. Find out more about how you can join in.

Events for members

Bringing people together and helping them establish connections is a really core part of what we do at DCN and events are a key tool in our toolbox.

Online chats

We run 150 online chats each year and these are divided by topic including: family type; child’s age; ethnicity; donation type; men only, and lots more. This makes it easy to find other families in a similar situation.

Local meet-ups

There’s nothing quite like getting together in person to build friendships so we run up to 120 local meet-ups each year. Lead by our local coordinators, these range from kid friendly picnics in the park to grown-up friendly meet-ups in the pub! We’ve got groups from Scotland down to Cornwall, and five in Ireland, so you’re bound to find one in your area.

Conferences

Since we began in 1993, we’ve run annual conferences to bring the donor conception community together and to share experiences, stories and hopes. Our London conference each spring attracts over 200 donor conception families and professionals and our smaller autumn conferences is a wonderful way for families to enjoy the benefits of the conference in their local area.

 

“We have a one year old who was conceived using both egg and sperm donors. The conference made us feel like we are part of something bigger, it’s not just us who have a donor conceived child. Plus, it just normalised the whole issue. I feel less concerned about the fact that I have a donor conceived child – I feel much more relaxed about the whole thing – thank you!”

The Big Question – How are DC young people *really* doing?

Wondering what the research says about the emotional and psychological wellbeing of donor conceived young people? Join our conversation with Dr Sophie Zadeh where we talk about the findings of her research into 18-32 year olds. This will be a really interesting exploration of the research outcomes and will give parents valuable insights into the experiences and feelings of donor conceived people. As part of the study, Dr Zadeh conducted long-form interviews, focus groups, and a nationwide survey, capturing a wealth of information. We’ll be asking: * What are the key takeaways from the research for parents of DC people?’ * What surprised her in the findings? * What trends emerged from the study? We’ll also welcome questions from members – this will be a great opportunity to ask an expert, and we’ll be giving you the chance to submit questions in advance and on the night.

Miscarriage and other challenges in the donor conception journey

This DCN chat specifically for members who have experienced miscarriage following donor conception or have come up against other significant challenges which have resulted in multiple failed DC attempts. In recognition of the particularly sensitive nature of this topic, the chat/group will be facilitated by Julie, one of our DCN Professional Members, who is a counsellor experienced in working with fertility issues and donor conception. This is a DCN chat for solo mums and dads who have children ages 5 and under. DCN Chat is a peer support online get-together. This DCN Chat will be hosted by Adrienne, solo mum to a child born 2017. All our DCN Chat facilitators are members themselves, and hosting the chat as individuals. This is not a professionally led or educational event. Join us for a supportive space to talk to others in similar situations. A workshop for heterosexual couples thinking about using an egg, sperm or embryo donor (potentially also with surrogacy). **A transformative, in-depth workshop to help you understand what donor conception would mean for you and your family and decide if this path is right for you.** The Destination Parenthood workshop from DCN offers a transformative experience by providing a supportive community, firsthand experiences, ongoing peer support, comprehensive information, and emotional relief. We run these workshops with small groups – a maximum of 8 couples – to ensure there’s plenty of time for you to devote to your own needs. This ensures we can create a comfortable and confidential space to explore your options without judgment or pressure. **This one day online workshop is for you if you are:** * A heterosexual couple thinking about whether donor conception is the right way forward to create or expand your family * Thinking about having fertility treatment in the UK or abroad * Considering an anonymous donor or a donor who is identifiable or known to you personally * Unsure about donor conception and would like to know more about the long term implications * Wondering if you need time out to evaluate where you have got to on your fertility journey and what your options may be for the future Our experience is that in order to get the most from the workshop, couples need to attend together if possible. This workshop is for those who have not yet conceived through donor conception (though you may already have children who are not donor-conceived). The focus is on the social and emotional aspects, and medical questions around donor conception are not covered in this workshop. **Please note that there is a 1 hour session on the Friday night 7.30-8.30pm for introductions and Zoom familiarisation and a 1 hour session on Saturday night 7.30-8.30pm to meet a donor conceived young person and ask them questions.**

Maybe you’re unsure about whether telling is the right thing to do? Or perhaps you’re concerned about who to tell and not tell in your life? Our Telling & Talking workshop is designed specifically with your needs and questions in mind. It provides a safe and confidential space for you to explore the benefits of telling and how to get started. This workshop is equally appropriate whether you had treatment in the UK or abroad, with a known, identifiable or anonymous donor or if your treatment involved surrogacy. You may be wondering how to start talking to your child about their donor-conceived origins, or you may have already begun this process and would like to explore what may come up in the future. As a single or lesbian woman, we recognise that your experiences are different from the time your pregnancy becomes public knowledge, and that attending our workshop even before your baby is born might be helpful for you. All of our single women and lesbian couples’ workshops have a small number of places for pregnant women.
