Volunteer with DCN

Help ensure we can support the next generation of donor conception families by volunteering

About volunteering with DCN

Our volunteers are essential to the running of many of our activities, and we are hugely grateful for the time and effort they dedicate to their roles. If you’re considering volunteering with us, you can explore the current vacancies and watch short clips about the Welcomer and Local Group Coordinator roles on this page.

We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to find out more.

The key criteria for volunteering are enthusiasm, and a friendly, thoughtful, and empathetic approach. We find it helpful for volunteers to have children older than three years, so they can draw on a wider range of experiences, although this is not a strict requirement.

We currently have vacancies for the following roles:

Volunteer Welcomers

We are looking for members in the following circumstances to join our welcoming team:

  • Heterosexual or same-sex couples:

    • who have used double/embryo donation

    • who are parents through surrogacy

  • Solo mums:

    • who used surrogacy

    • are in ‘mixed families’ (with naturally or adopted children and donor conceived children)

Local meetup coordinators

  • East Anglia
  • West London

  • South West England

Plus more widely anyone across the UK or Ireland who is interested in arranging in-person events.

Chat facilitators

Chat facilitators are the latest addition to our team of volunteers, as we have expanded our online offer of DCN Chats. Ideally if you are interested in this role, you will have some experience of group facilitation. We are especially interested in hearing from members in the following circumstances:

  • Heterosexual couples with older children

  • Parents with a known donor (not family, but a friend/acquaintance or someone met online)

Other roles

We are also seeking:

  • Event volunteers to support at external events such as the Fertility Show and Modern Family Show.
  • Small group facilitators for our own DCN conferences.

Want to know more?

If you are interested in any of these roles please email volunteers@dcnetwork.org for more information.

Alternatively, you can download our Volunteer handbook here to find out more about what volunteering entails and how we support you.
