Events for members

Bringing people together and helping them establish connections is a really core part of what we do at DCN and events are a key tool in our toolbox.

Online chats

We run 150 online chats each year and these are divided by topic including: family type; childโ€™s age; ethnicity; donation type; men only, and lots more. This makes it easy to find other families in a similar situation.

Local meet-ups

Thereโ€™s nothing quite like getting together in person to build friendships so we run up to 120 local meet-ups each year. Lead by our local coordinators, these range from kid friendly picnics in the park to grown-up friendly meet-ups in the pub! Weโ€™ve got groups from Scotland down to Cornwall, and five in Ireland, so youโ€™re bound to find one in your area.

Conferences

Since we began in 1993, we’ve run annual conferences to bring the donor conception community together and to share experiences, stories and hopes. Our London conference each spring attracts over 200 donor conception families and professionals and our smaller autumn conferences is a wonderful way for families to enjoy the benefits of the conference in their local area.

 

“We have a one year old who was conceived using both egg and sperm donors. The conference made us feel like we are part of something bigger, it’s not just us who have a donor conceived child. Plus, it just normalised the whole issue. I feel less concerned about the fact that I have a donor conceived child – I feel much more relaxed about the whole thing – thank you!”

โ€˜Reflectionsโ€™ – Parents of DC Adults

You are invited to join the group for parents of DC adults. This group will be facilitated by Jane, one of our longterm members who also works with DCN. We are inviting parents of those with children who are adults. We hope this chat can offer an attuned space to the discussions that may be more relevant to the context in which children were conceived 20+ years ago, in a different climate to that which is now prevalent, with regards to openness in particular. This is a DCN chat for women in same-sex couples, prospective and parents alike. DCN Chat is a peer support online get-together. Ethnicity in donor conception

This DCN chat is an opportunity to come together to talk about the issue of ethnicity in donor conception. This may be relevant if you are undertaking treatment with a donor of a different ethnicity, where ethnicity shows up in your donor decision-making process or where your child’s external appearance differs significantly to you (or you and your partner). This DCN Chat is open to all, but please note that the intention of this discussion is to hold a space for people who are experiencing challenges and successes within this realm and to offer the opportunity to share these in a peer-support forum. There is no right or wrong and we would ask that anyone who joins does so with the intention of being extremely respectful with this somewhat sensitive issue. DCN Spring Conference 2025

We’re really excited to announce that tickets are on sale for our annual DCN members’ conference in North London on Sunday 27 April 2025. The event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others and to hear from knowledgeable and inspiring speakers. __Programme for the day__ [Conference programme](https://dcnetwork.org/app/uploads/2025/03/Programme-to-share-ahead-of-the-day.pdf) We have a full day planned, as you’ll see from the programme attached (and linked above). You’ll hear from parents and donor conceived adults sharing their experiences. A sperm donor and a young man from a solo mum family will be speaking about meeting and their developing relationship. We have invited Debbie Kennett to talk about home DNA testing. Debbie is an expert and author on genetic genealogy. She’ll explain about what home DNA testing is, how people are using it and the impact and implications for donor conception families. We’re very pleased to have Dr Vasanti Jadva from University of London presenting a selection of research, aiming to shed light on the complexity of searching for donor connections and the different feelings that people can have towards those they are connected to. Alternatively, instead of the research session, you’ll have the option to join a small group to focus discussion on specific topics (more details about the groups will come very soon). DCN Summer Picnic in North London

You are warmly invited to a DCN/North London summer picnic, which will take place on Sunday 22nd June in Golders Hill Park, North London. Although this event is in North London it is open to everyone. Weโ€™ll be sitting under our usual tree next to the bandstand. If you come through the North End Way entrance, with the cafรฉ on your right, head in a direct line towards the bandstand and you will find us. We will put balloons on the tree. We have set the event up in Bookwhen so we are asking you to REGISTER if you are interested. This means we can know rough numbers, and can also communicate easily if the weather means plans need to be updated. Bring a picnic and a rug. If you have kids, bring them along and some games to share. Members at any stage of the DC process are invited, especially those whoโ€™ve joined recently. Singles, couples, people considering treatment, pregnant or parents with children – all are welcome.

Getting Started

Event for prospective parents thinking about using egg, sperm or embryo donation. If youโ€™re thinking about using donor conception, you probably have lots of questions. This event is the perfect place to start getting answers. Join us and hear from: * __An embryologist__ from a UK clinic giving a really informative overview of the medical side of things. We always get fantastic feedback about this session, which provides an essential foundation with lots of time for questions. * __Donor conceived people__ talking about their experiences. How do the children feel? We know this is something lots of prospective parents wonder about. This event provides a rare opportunity to hear from them in person and ask questions. Not to be missed! * __Parents__ talking through their decision-making and describing family life once children arrive. ANNUAL Solo Mums Picnic 28/6/25 โ€“ 20 years old!

ANNUAL Solo Mums Picnic 28/6/25 โ€“ 20 years old! ******** The first Solo Mums Picnic was in 2005, attended by about a dozen of us plus assorted children. In those days, there was a paddling pool and an entrance fee, now weโ€™ve got a cocktail bar and free entryโ€ฆ The crowd has grown to 60+, from thinkers and tryers to pregnant women and mums with little ones, and some bigger ones too, as well as the occasional Grandma! Some have travelled as far as Ireland or Belgium, others from round the corner. Generally lucky with the weather, we try to find shade, spread out the blankets and have a great time. The playground provides for those who like to climb & swing, the lawns allow for a bit of frisbee or ball play, and for the rest of us to loll around in the sun and make connections that last for years, sharing tips and tricks and anecdotesโ€ฆ

Workshop: Telling & Talking (IN PERSON, mum-and-dad families)

This workshop is for parents of donor-conceived children aged 0-7 years. This workshop is equally appropriate whether you had treatment in the UK or abroad, with a known, identifiable or anonymous donor or if your treatment involved surrogacy. You may be wondering how to start talking to your child about their donor-conceived origins, or you may have already begun this process and would like to explore what may come up in the future.
